Dr Asha Pook has worked in Psychiatry in the NHS, Royal Air Force and Independent sectors in the UK and Australia. She has specialist expertise in Aviation Psychiatry and offering occupational assessments. She is a current advisor in Psychiatry to the Civil Aviation Authority and works with AMEs, Class 1 Aero-medical centres and NATS.
Dr Asha Pook trained as a doctor at Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry (KCSMD) and as part of her medical cadetship with the RAF, she completed 40 hours of flying training on a Bulldog T1 aircraft. She specialised in General Adult Psychiatry and is experienced in the management of a wide range of mental health conditions and has also trained in a number of psychotherapies, including EMDR, CBT and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). Dr Pook was a Consultant in the Royal Air Force for over twenty-five years and set up the specialist Aviation Psychiatry Clinic for the UK military. She graduated from the Kings post graduate course in Aerospace Medicine and gained the Diploma in Aviation Medicine in 2022. She talks and teaches regularly on the topic of Aviation Psychiatry and is a contributing author for the mental health chapter for Ernsting’s Textbook on Aviation and Space Medicine, 2025, 6th Edition and the Handbook of Aviation Neuropsychology (Hogrefe), 2024.
Dr Pook is fully registered and licensed to practice with General Medical Council and is fully compliant with the regulatory appraisal and revalidation requirements. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Pook can offer face to face appointments either in Bath, Bristol or London or can arrange online video consultations, on a secure medical internet platform.
The CAA prefer face to face consultations especially if the issue has been present for a while or keeps recurring, there is more than one issue or medication is being used. The appointment will take an hour and reports are sent electronically. They are usually sent to yourself and the requesting AME.
Currently, Dr Pook is not able to take new general psychiatry cases and only has availability for occupational/aviation assessments.
Dr Pook charges £500 for a new/initial case which includes the assessment, reading any relevant medical documentation (GP record, therapy letters or Psychiatry, Psychology reports) and a report in the CAA format within 3-5 working days.
Dr Pook asks for a payment of £100 once the time and date of the assessment have been agreed
Due to the high demand for appointments, please give 48 hours notice of any cancellation. If there is less notice or no notice given then the deposit will be retained.
Communication and written reports are done electronically by e-mail. All reports are sent password protected.
Your personal information is used solely for completion of the medical report, and with your consent, will be shared with your AME.
